A common failure on many C5 Corvettes with even slight modifications is the power steering pulley. We had an amazing turnout! And it did our hearts good to see so many Corvette enthusiasts come out and show pride after a week of so much terrible news surrounding GM. Bankruptcy and uncertainty about product continuation were the final blows dealt by GM, blows that affect every Corvette enthusiast. Yet row after row of gorgeous cars, from original straight-axles to fully customized C6s, enjoyed perfect weather and Corvette owner camaraderie.
This was significant for everyone at Zip. As a leader in our industry, instead of making cuts and pulling back like many others, we have been pushing hard and investing in our company, and ultimately in our customers. We have invested heavily in GM supplied parts, stocking up on AC-Delco and everything else that we get direct from GM. 94-96 Corvette MSD Spark Plug Wires
1992-1996 LT1 & LT4 Corvette: The MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor Wire is “the” performance wire for C4 Corvettes. Engineered from the inside out, the 8.5 offers everything you have ever wanted in a wire; incredibly low resistance without electronic interference! In a single 12 inch length of Super Conductor Wire there is only 40 – 50 ohms of resistance! That is the lowest resistance of any helically wound wire. To accomplish this, MSD uses a copper alloy conductor due to its great voltage carrying capabilities. The low resistance results in less loss in spark energy so more reaches the spark plug. The conductor is wound extremely tight around a special center core. So tight in fact, that there is over 40 feet of conductor wrapped into a single foot of plug wire. This winding procedure, combined with a ferro-magnetic impregnated center core, produces an extremely effective Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) “choke”. This choke, or suppression capability, keeps the EMI inside the wire where it cannot interfere with other electronics on your Corvette. The outer sleeve that surrounds the conductor assembly is just as impressive. A proprietary blend of silicone and synthetic material produce a sleeve that is highly resistant to high heat as well as abrasion and tears.

You have probably heard that the Dutch have been known to wear wooden shoes. Most people are hard to convince of this because in today’s world very few still sport this trend around town. However, it is nice to see that those who do are not afraid to show off a little Corvette spirit as well. Many customers call us and complain about having squeaky brakes. Though some instances may call for a much more in-depth solution, often times the problem is a set of loose, vibrating brake pads. Now available from Zip Corvette for all 1965-1982 Corvettes is an anti-squeak brake pad shim kit. The shims are made of a long lasting plastic designed to stabilize the Corvette’s Brake Pads inside the caliper eliminating any noise or vibration. Each kit includes 8 plastic shims, which is enough to quiet every pad on any 65-82 Corvette.

To install the shims without removing the pads from the brake caliper just rock the pad up and down while they are still inside the caliper. Slide the plastic shim down the trailing edge of each pad as far as possible and trim any excess from the top. The kit is designed to have one shim installed on each inner and outer brake pad on the Corvette. If vibration or noise persists you can move the shim from one edge to the other, or, place a shim on both edges of each brake pad. One way or the other, this simple brake pad shim kit from Zip could be a simple solution to a noisy set of brakes.

Early Corvette Interiors featured a rich tapestry of different materials, textures, and surface finishes. One of the more outstanding features is the aluminum dash insert found in 1958-1962 Corvettes. Replacing the dash insert is not complicated but does require attention to detail and patience.

Aluminum Dash Insert
Begin by removing the screws holding the chrome escutcheons at each end of the passenger side grab bar. Slide the escutcheons toward the center of the bar to expose the screws hidden beneath them. Remove these screws and lift the bar out. Unscrew the nuts that retain the insert assembly to the dash by reaching behind the insert. Once the nuts are removed separate the insert assembly from the dash. Once the insert assembly is out you will see how it is put together. The delicate aluminum insert sits on a heavy steel backing and is held by thin stainless steel trim that clips over the edges of the aluminum and steel around the perimeter. The stainless trim is tack welded to the steel backing and you must cut the welds, a task best accomplished with a small grinder or rotary cutting tool. Take care not to cut beyond the weld or you risk damaging a part of the stainless trim that is visible. After the welds are ground pull the stainless off and separate the aluminum from the backing. Glass bead and paint the normally rusty backing and polish the stainless trim. Lay the new insert onto the backing and carefully clip the stainless back into position. Avoid touching the insert as it scratches easily and even the oil from your fingers can blemish it. Gently clamp the assembly so that both pieces of stainless fully seat. Apply a thin layer of two-part epoxy to the area where the stainless meets the steel backing on the reverse side. After the epoxy dries remove the clamps and reinstall your newly restored assembly.
