How do you adjust the windshield wipers on 1968-1982 C3 Corvettes
Today’s Corvette technical question comes from a C3 Corvette owner
How do I adjust the windshield wipers on my 1976 Corvette:
Answer: The wiper arms fit into a specific groove on the wiper arm transmissions coming through the top of the cowl, therefore no adjustment exists on the exterior of your 1968-1982 Corvette. The
adjustments for your wiper arm locations are found on the backside of the Corvettes wiper motor where the link arms attach to the wiper motor ball stud. This can easily be found on 1973-1982 Corvettes where access is granted, on 1968-1972 Corvettes the wiper door may need to be removed or lifted in the very highest position. Once the nuts are loosened, the wiper link arms will “slide” to allow for proper adjustment. The nuts can be tightened once the arm locations are adjusted enough to make sure the wiper blades do not hit when returning to their inside position.

Yes, the windshield wiper blade adjustment is good, but after trying it, the drivers wiper blade still hits the A pillar, even on low speed. Got any other advise? PG.
This article would be much improved with a picture of the adjustment point included rather than the car.
A picture or diagram would be worth a thousand words. I am currently restoring a 1969 Corvette convertible with many missing parts including the entire wiper system. Any way to get a step by step diagram? Thank You
If the wiper arm adjustment is all the way in, with both rods pulled to the inside on the adjustment behind the wiper motor, the next check would be to make sure the wiper arm heads have not been replaced with an aftermarket version which is longer than the factory head unit and make sure that somehow the arm is not in the wrong position on the wiper transmission that comes through the cowl. The wiper arm should only mount in one position, please confirm the arm is in the correct mounting position.
Lastly, you could have a bent arm that looks ok, but could be off a couple of degrees. At that point, a replacement arm may be your only hope for solving the problem.
The image has been changed to show the location of the adjustment. Hopefully this will help answer some of the questions.
All of a sudden one of the windshield wiper blades tried to pop up under the wiper cover as I was driving. I didn’t do anything to cause this to happen that I am aware of. I have a 1972 Corvette. I can’t get the wiper cover to move one way or the other and the wiper blade is stuck. Any suggestions?
Susan,
If you remove the wiper grille you should be able to free the stuck blade.
@Steve Cherba
Are you the same Steve Cherba who played peck horn in the Michigan Marching Band? If so, I remember the Corvette you drove back in those days. Great machine!
@Dan Harris
Harris!!!! Where are you??? How are you doing? Great to hear from you. Yeah, its me, how did you find me on this thing?
I am on face book (only minimally) so that I could join the 1969 MMB group there. I went to the “blast from the past” for the 1st time this year for the 40th reunion of the ‘69 Rose Bowl Band. Check it out and join the group, it has some photo’s including the famous peck horn overlays on it. Sorry I didn’t get back earlier, Jan and I were talking about it this morning afterwards, and I told her that you were about the only person I remembered from that organization after 40 years, with almost all the other horn players being in the music school and me in engineering. Then she mentioned seeing this somehow through a google search.
Yeah, that WAS a great machine, nothing like a 1970-1/2 LS6 crate motor 450HP 454CI solid lifter motor with 950cfm Holley 3 barrel on it… Too bad we sold it about a year after graduation (sigh).
