As with any car, the 63-82 Corvette front suspension has many items that wear out over time. In this article we cover almost every aspect of the front suspension as well as the steering system.

This project is a major rebuild job and will take some time, but your Corvette will feel like new and you know you will not need to worry about anything else in the front suspension for years to come. This is the perfect project for the winter months.

We replaced the springs, power steering pump, ram, valve, hoses, idler arm, drag link, tie rods, sleeves, control arm bushings, bumpers, stabilizer bar bushings, end kits, and shocks on this 1978 Corvette, and all 63-82 Corvettes have very similar front suspension and steering parts.

    I was wondering how much a front suspension and a rear end suspension would cost. I recently purchased a 1971 that has a lot more rust than I first thought and I’m hearing some bumping in the rear. The rear end has fluid but with all the rust I have no idea what I’m getting myself into when I take it to a mechanic. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Corbetty,
    It depends on if you are buying them rebuilt or used. Used would be approximately a thousand each depending on where you find everything but you will not know what you are getting. You will know it is not rusty, but you will not know if the T-arm bearings are bad or if the differential is bad. Fully rebuilt will set you back several thousand dollars, but everything will be in new condition.

    I have a 1977 Corvette that needs the rear leaf spring replaced. I am wondering if the fiberglass composite spring is the one to use. I understand that the steel spring replacement is 1/2 the price. I am not out to torque the suspension by any means. I just enjoy cruising around in the car. Opinions are greatly appreciated.

    Benny,
    With the fiberglass spring you are going to get much better rear end handling plus it is significantly lighter.

    I do appreciate your reply, concerning the rear spring issue. I know now that I will purchase the composite spring set up. Thanks again for your knowledge.

    Hi I have a 1951 chevy that I would like to update the front clip and front suspension on. I was told that a 1958 Corvette front clip will bolt-on. Is that so?

    Alex,
    I know they are similar but I do not know if the Corvette front clip will work or not. The Corvette sat lower than the Chevy passenger car, so there are spindles and other components that are different.
