Z06/GS Rear Drilled Rotors

Our new C6 Z06 & Grand Sport Two-Piece Drilled Rear Brake Rotors weigh in at 14.25 lbs. each compared to 20.5 lbs. to a stock rotor. That is a weight savings of 6.25 lbs per rotor. Using the standard ratio of 1 pound of un-sprung weight is equal to 6 pounds of overall weight that would be equivalent to 75 pounds of weight off the car. That is a significant difference in acceleration for just a set of rotors!

Note:13″ rotors are designed for C6 Z06 & GrandSport Corvettes. These rotors includes a provision to use the factory parking brake assembly.

Corvette Brake Pads for C6 Z06 & Grand Sport

Z06/Grand Sport Corvette Brake Pads

Z06/Grand Sport Corvette Brake Pads

In 2005 Corvette was having a great year. The new Corvette was selling well and it was the first year of the new body style and it was hot, yet better things were brewing for the Corvette. At the end of the 2005 model year the new 2006 models were being shown off and the rumors of a new Z06 were confirmed. Among the many great options on the C6 Z06 Corvette was the addition of brake padlets, which allow each piston to have its own brake pad. There were a total of 12 padlets in the front and 8 in the rear. This design came from the world of F1 and had never been on a production road car. These came with mixed feelings, but they have proved to be very effective.

Another first for the Corvette, which had not occurred since 1982 was that the Corvette used opposing pistons vs. a single side piston. Opposing pistons means that you have a piston on each side of the rotor vs the 1984-2004 style that only had pistons on the inboard side and the caliper slides to pinch the pads against the rotors. Part of the reason for the padlets was to give multiple leading edges vs. just two on the single pad design.

The new brakes were not well received by some, GM taunted the car as basically a street legal race car. There were some who thought you should be able to take it straight to the track as it sat on the showroom floor. For the most part you could, but you would quickly find the limitations of the brakes. However, the problem was not the brakes themselves, it was the pad compound that was the issue. When the proper compound brake pad was chosen the brakes would perform extremely well. The only downfall of the new design was the pins that held the pads in place. The pins themselves were fine, but finding a new pin(s) was a challenge. In order to get new Corvette brake pad pins you had to buy a new brake caliper.

Zip Corvette is proud to announce the addition of the OEM AC Delco C6 Corvette Brake Pads with all new pins. It is always recommended to change the pins when replacing the pads, it is not always required but the pins do wear and it is a sure fire way to keep everything in proper working order. Zip Corvette has a wide variety of brake pads from some of the best companies out there like Cobalt, Hawk and Carbotech and compounds ranging from street pads with little dusting to full on race pads that will require a harness system to keep you from imprinting your face into your windshield. Zip is also a dealer for Corvette Racing Brake Caliper Pins. These pins have a 10mm socket head on them instead of the factory torx or 6mm hex head. This will insure that your brake caliper pins will come out every time.

If you have a standard C6 or even a C5, and you would like to upgrade your Corvette’s brakes, then Zip has an answer for you. Zip Corvette has put together an exclusive Z06 Corvette Brake Upgrade Kit. It includes new GM Z06 brake calipers front and rear, Zip’s two piece Coleman rotors with park brake capability, new stainless brake lines and a complete set of AC Delco brake padlets with retaining pins. Please note you will not be able to install this brake kit using stock Corvette wheels. Zip is an authorized dealer for Forgeline Wheels and CCW Wheels and will be happy to quote a package deal to get your Corvette braking just as well as a new C6 Z06.

Corvette Fuel Line & Brake Line Clip Kit for 1974-1982 C3

December 21st, 2010 No comments
Corvette Brake Line & Fuel Line Clip Kit

Corvette Brake Line & Fuel Line Clip Kit

Many years ago, I replaced one of the brake lines on my C3 Corvette coupe. In the process, I lost one of the clips holding the pipe to the frame and the one next to it was missing before I started. There was still one other clip holding this long stretch of brake pipe, so I didn’t worry. Back then, I didn’t know any better.

Why are there so many fuel and brake line clips–more than 25–on a 1968-1982 Corvette frame? Obviously, some are needed to hold the lines in place but there has to be a lot of clips in order to hold the lines securely. If the pipes’ mountings are not extremely rigid, your Corvette’s Brake Lines can move or vibrate. If they do that while touching the frame, the line may wear and eventually leak. Leaking fuel or brake pipes? Not good. Missing fuel or brake line clamps can, also, allow a loose fuel or brake pipe to rattle against the frame making an annoying and sometimes hard to find noise.

So…where do you get the fuel/brake line clips for your Corvette? Well, enterprising scroungers can find generic hold down clamps which will work ok at a good hardware store, but a better way is to buy the right parts. Zip Products has sold brake and fuel line clip kits for Corvettes for a long time, but until recently, Zip’s clip kits contained functional replacements but not correct reproductions of the parts Chevrolet used at the factory when the Corvettes were assembled.

What about those performing restorations of their 1974-1982 Corvettes to NCRS or Bloomington Gold specifications? Those restorers have searched far and wide for accurate reproductions of those fuel and brake line clips and the special bolts used to attach them to the Corvette frame.

For some C3 restorers, the search is over. Zip recently introduced a line of correct reproduction 1974-1982 Corvette Fuel Line and Brake Line Clip and Bolt Kits. The first of these kits, for 1974-1982 Corvettes, includes 27 fuel and brake pipe mounting clips which are cadmium-plated and stamped with the correct “C” and size designation. The clips come with the proper, black-oxide-coated, indented-hex-head, self-tapping bolts.

Corvette Stainless Steel Brake Hose Set for 1953-1962 C1

September 10th, 2009 No comments

Stainless steel Corvette Brake Hoses are excellent performance upgrades over rubber hoses because they do not expand under pressure, which gives you a firmer feeling pedal with a quicker braking response. Our new Stainless Steel Brake Hose Set for 1953-1962 Corvettes will give your Corvette just that. These braided stainless steel Corvette Brake Hoses comply with USA Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and are 100% made in the USA. Each Corvette brake hose set comes with the three necessary braided stainless steel hoses, three “U” clips, and three copper washers for installation.

53-62 Corvette Stainless Brake Hoses

53-62 Corvette Stainless Brake Hoses

Stainless Steel Corvette Brake Hose Set Features:

  • D.O.T. compliant
  • Race proven & street legal
  • Harder/firmer brake pedal
  • Greater heat resistance
  • Direct bolt-on application
  • Shorter stopping distances

Not sure stainless steel Corvette Brake Hoses are for you? Consider this: Stainless steel braided brake hoses are far superior to rubber brake hoses because the rubber hoses expand under pressure. Think of the rubber brake hoses as your garden hose; when you turn the water on you can see the hose expanding as the water pressure in the garden hose increases. Stainless Steel braided brake hoses do not expand under pressure giving you a firmer, faster, more responsive brake pedal. They are also much safer and last longer than rubber brake hoses. Your Corvette’s Brakes are one component that CAN’T fail. Don’t risk it; replace your old rubber hoses today.

Z06 Corvette Brake Caliper & Rotor Kit For 1997-2004 C5 & C6

September 3rd, 2009 2 comments

For C5 & C6 Corvette owners who have pushed their factory Corvette brakes to the max, we now have a Z06 Corvette Brake Caliper & Rotor Kit that will upgrade your Corvette’s brakes to the massive C6 Z06 braking system. This C5 & C6 Corvette brake upgrade kit is complete with every part needed including new GM mounting hardware. With the brake kit you will receive our heavy duty two-piece Corvette Rotors, made in the USA DOT approved stainless steel brake hoses, Hawk ceramic front and rear brake pads, and brand new GM C6 Z06 Corvette Brake Calipers.

C6 Corvette Brake Upgrade Kit

Corvette Brake Caliper & Rotor Kit

Our two-piece 14″ rotor and hat assemblies are made in the USA and weigh only 16.25 pounds. Each Coleman Racing rotor (which are used in NASCAR, Desert Race Trucks and more) is gas veined and custom machined for the Z06 Corvette. The aluminum hats are machined from 6061 T6 aircraft grade aluminum that is hard coated black anodized. The hat and rotors are held together with NAS fasteners, which are used in both aircraft and spacecraft production.

As advertised our stainless steel braided brake hoses are included in this Corvette Brake Upgrade Kit. They come with Teflon lining that will far outlast rubber hoses, plus deliver a firmer pedal. These stainless hoses will bolt right on, are heat resistant, and completely street legal. As mentioned, they are also DOT approved and made in the USA.

The Hawk Corvette Brake Pads included in the brake upgrade kit are a low noise compound that offers ultimate stopping power and creates an ultra-low amount of dust. The premium, high performance compound called performance ceramic is engineered to reduce brake NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) in Corvettes, creating a quieter performing brake pad. Furthermore, the ceramic brake pad formula has a linear friction profile that allows your ABS brake system to work more effectively. With performance ceramic brake pads you can expect reduced brake pad wear, lower dust output levels and a rotor-friendly brake pad. By using Hawk Corvette Brake Pads you will see and increase in stopping power, rotor life, and pad life while maintaining an ultra-low amount of dust and noise.

Lastly you will also receive a set of new GM C6 Z06 Corvette Brake Calipers with this brake upgrade kit. The set of four Corvette calipers come ready to bolt on using the caliper mount bolts and caliper mount washers supplied with the kit. These brake calipers add the finishing touch to what is sure to be an immense upgrade to your C5, C5 Z06, or C6 Corvette Brake System.
