Corvette Side Exhaust for 1963-1967 C2

January 8th, 2010 2 comments

In 1965 through 1967, Chevrolet gave customers the option of adding side exhaust to their Corvette. Though there were over 70,000 Corvettes produced during this time period, only 11% left with the factory installed Corvette Side Exhaust Package. If you’re thinking it is time to replace your already installed Corvette’s side exhaust or you would like to swap your 1963-1967 Corvette’s Exhaust for a side exhaust package, we can point you in the right direction.

First you will need to decide whether you would like to go with the carbon steel mufflers, aluminized mufflers, or stainless steel mufflers. All muffler systems are authentic in looks and are proudly made in the USA. With carbon steel you will be getting the closest to factory original as you can get. Carbon systems include jig welded header pipes with an aluminized steel 2.75″ chambered section as original, and correct 2.75″ chrome plated exhaust tips. Aluminized mufflers are an excellent choice if you want an OE style muffler but much longer life than true originals. The aluminized steel header pipes are jig welded and include an aluminized chambered center section. Exhaust tips are 2.75″ of polished stainless steel for lasting good looks. The stainless steel systems will produce near forever performance. The jig welded 304 stainless header pipes include a stainless (inside and out) 2.75″ chambered section and 2.75″ polished stainless exhaust tips.

If you are looking for aluminized or stainless mufflers and want to replace your Corvette’s Side Exhaust System or add side exhaust to your 1963-1967 Corvette we have pre-assembled packages that will provide all the necessary components to get the job done. All Corvette Exhaust Packages include new reproduction exhaust covers, trim moldings, aluminized or stainless mufflers, and all mounting hardware. If a package like this is what you want but in carbon steel, we can easily put together a package that includes the carbon mufflers as well. For more information on a Corvette side exhaust package with carbon mufflers contact customer service here and we will provide you with the details.

Aside from complete Corvette exhaust packages, we also have individual side exhaust components for those who need to replace a few mount brackets or missing bolts. These items can be found in our Corvette Parts Catalog or our C2 Corvette Exhaust section on our website.

If you have spent time and money making your 1963-1967 Corvette’s Exhaust look and sound just right, adding our Corvette Side Exhaust Cover Protectors may not be a bad idea. They will help protect the front most edges of your Corvette’s Side Exhaust Covers from scratches and road rash that are very common on 1963-1967 Corvettes with side exhaust.

Corvette LS9 Power Package for C6 ZR1

December 1st, 2009 3 comments

You may think it would be hard to improve on the very potent ZR1 Corvette since it comes from GM with 638 hp, but it is possible. The Corvette engineers did a fantastic job of bringing us an awesome car, but they also gave us something capable of more. The Zip Corvette ZR1 Corvette LS9 Power Package brings together our exclusive set of Kooks R-Series stepped headers and high flow stainless steel converters backed by a Corsa Sport exhaust system to give the ZR1 Corvette some authority out on the road. Along with a supercharger pulley upgrade kit, Mamba fresh air scoop, Zip performance shielded spark plug wires to keep the heat off, and some calibration changes in the PCM; this performance package will turn your ZR1 Corvette into a 700 horsepower beast. You will also notice quicker acceleration thanks to an additional 5lbs. of boost and free breathing on the exhaust side.

Check out each performance Corvette Part included in our ZR1 Corvette LS9 Power Package:

Mamba Fresh Air ScoopMamba Fresh Air Scoop

The Mamba Fresh Air Scoop allows the ZR1 Corvette air intake to achieve it’s full potential by ramping fresh air from the front of your ZR1 Corvette directly into the opening of the intake. The Mamba Fresh Air Scoop is mounted to your ZR1 Corvette’s radiator shroud with 3M double sided tape.

Upgrade Kit

The Lingenfelter ZR1 Supercharger Pulley Upgrade Kit is designed to enhance the LS9 Corvette ZR1 supercharged engine. This upgrade kit produces excellent horsepower and torque improvements over the factory 638 horsepower and 604 lbs. ft of torque while maintaining a safe level of boost and supercharger RPM.

C6 Corvette Shielded Spark Plug WiresPerformance Corvette Spark Plug Wires

These Hi-Performance spark plug wires are built to Zip’s standards, built specifically for Corvettes with headers. We start out using a Delco Mag wire and then heat shield it with some of the best products the aftermarket has to offer. This will be the last set of wires you will ever have to replace from getting burned by a header or just plain wearing out. These C6 Corvette spark plug wires are the perfect compliment to the Kooks Stepped Headers also included in this LS9 power package.

ZR1 Corvette PCM ProgrammingZR1 Corvette PCM Programming

To go with all of the upgrades to your LS9 Corvette engine, we will also upgrade your ZR1 Corvette’s PCM. With custom PCM programming using HP Tuners scanning and diagnostic tools we can modify just about any setting available within your ZR1 Corvette’s computer system.

Kooks C6 Corvette Stepped HeadersKooks ZR1 Corvette Stepped Headers

If you really want to step up your Corvette’s exhaust system then consider a set of Kooks Custom Headers from Zip Corvette. Kooks Stepped Header design, which is included in this power package melds the particular advantages of specific tube diameters: low end torque from 1 3/4″ primaries at the flange, then opening up to 2″ tubes for unrestricted top end. Built by Kooks Custom Headers, manufactured from mandrel bent 304 stainless steel with 3/8″ flanges and 3″ collectors. Stepped headers include O2 sensor bungs, gaskets and sensor extensions.

Kooks C6 Corvette High Flow Converters & Mid-PipeKooks ZR1 Corvette Mid-Section

This mid-section is designed to complete installation of Zip/Kooks R-series “stepped” headers on LS9 equipped Corvettes. The mid-pipe bolts directly to the 3″ collectors and allows you to utilize the ZR1 exhaust system of your choice; in this case the ZR1 Corsa Sport. The 304 stainless steel center section includes a crossover pipe and hi-flow stainless steel converters for a completely street legal performance exhaust system.

Corsa Sport C6 ZR1 Corvette Exhaust SystemCorsa Sport ZR1 Corvette Exhaust System

Also included in the LS9 ZR1 Corvette Power Package is the clean-sheet engineered C6 ZR1 Corvette Corsa Sport Exhaust System. Corsa’s famous sport system includes a race car like sound at full throttle yet a calm sound great for cruising speeds, military grade 321L stainless steel, and an increase in horsepower and airflow over the stock application. The quad 4″ exhaust tips finished with the Corsa logo adds the finishing touches to this near perfect Corvette exhaust.

ZR1 Corvette W/Power Package

ZR1 Corvette W/LS9 Power Package

Take a look at a couple of our before and after dyno runs of a customers ZR1 Corvette with our LS9 power package installed. As you can see in the graph the ZR1 Corvette was producing 429 rear wheel horsepower and 410 ft-lbs. of torque at 5500 rpm (red). After installation of our ZR1 Corvette Power Package the ZR1 produced 534 rear wheel horsepower and 510 ft-lbs. of torque at the same 5500 rpm (blue). That’s an improvement of over 100 horsepower and 100 ft-lbs. of torque on a stock ZR1 Corvette. Not only did this ZR1 produce greater numbers but it sounded like a pure race car with the C6 Corsa Exhaust System, Kooks Headers, and Kooks Mid Section. So if you thought adding to your ZR1 Corvette was impossible you may want to think again. Our power package will make any stock ZR1 accelerate faster and produce approximately100 more horsepower to the rear wheels.

Corvette Performance & Installation Facility at Zip

February 19th, 2009 50 comments

Corvette owners: Does “turn-key” sound more appealing than “Do-It-Yourself”? If so, Zip Corvette’s Performance & Installation Facility is for you.

For years, Zip Corvette has been the place to buy Corvette Parts & Accessories for your 1953 to C6 Corvette, but now your purchase is even easier. In 2004, we opened our Corvette performance and installation facility. We offer Zip Corvette customers a professional installation on thousands of items, backed by our Customer Satisfaction Guarantee and over 30 years of Corvette experience.

Just about anything: Whether you need a 1966 Corvette Trailing Arm rebuild or want to gain a few extra horsepower from your 2009 C6, you can count on Zip. We utilize only the best equipment available, including all diagnostic tools, tuning equipment and the latest tire mounting and balancing machines. We can safely mount and accurately balance any Corvette wheel and tire package. Whether it is a new set of Firestone Deluxe Champions on a 1955 Corvette or the latest ZR1 Corvette wheels on a C5 or C6, or even our 20 inch forged wheel and tire packages, we can handle it.

More than just wheels: Are you in the market for a reputable shop to install a new Corsa, B & B, Borla, Callaway or Magnaflow Exhaust System with Kooks Headers and Crossover Pipe? We can do it. Did you say Corvette Supercharger? Of course we can install those too, and even tune the car to make the most horsepower possible. Our head mechanics are certified ASE Master Automobile Technicians who have spent many days under the hood of all six generations of Corvettes. From projects as basic as installing grill screens or side spears to the installation of Z06 Corvette Body Update Kits and more, whatever the job may be, we have successfully done it numerous times.

The small stuff: While we can certainly handle the large projects, many of the Corvettes that are in and out of our installation facility are getting the “small things” installed. This includes exterior accessories like Corvette fender screens, billet aluminum grills, C6 Corvette license plate mounts and much, much more. Why spend 2-4 hours during your weekend reading instructions, trying to do it yourself and hoping you did it right? Just come to Zip; we can handle many jobs in under an hour while you wait on the couch in our showroom. You can have confidence in our installation service because we’ve done them all many times.

We build it: One aspect of our installation facility that is often overlooked is the fact that many of our Corvette parts are built in-house by experienced technicians. We build all of our own differentials for all generations of Corvettes, as well as Corvette trailing arm assemblies, steering boxes and many more parts. Our performance Corvette Differentials are currently running in SCCA Corvette race cars, as well as many satisfied customers’ cars on the street. Use Zip Corvette’s install shop with confidence! Stop by and see a sales person or contact us for an appointment. Remember that unlike other auto shops, at Zip, Corvettes are all we do.

Corvette Restoration Tip: Exhaust Manifolds

November 24th, 2008 No comments

This Corvette Restoration Tip is brought to you by Zip Corvette and can be found in Zip’s free Corvette Parts & Accessories Catalogs – request one online today.

Cast iron exhaust manifolds will begin to rust at the first sign of moisture, leaving your Corvette’s engine compartment looking decidedly less than “Best of Show”. Begin removing the manifolds by first liberally spraying all bolts with penetrating oil. Repeat this step at least three or four times over the next hour. The last thing you want is a stud twisted off into the base of your manifold – have patience and take your time with the following steps.

Corvette Exhaust Manifold

Corvette Exhaust Manifold

Once all bolts are well soaked, loosen the three manifold to pipe stud nuts. With a wire brush, clean the stud under the nut and apply more penetrating oil. Now you can slowly remove the nuts. Next unbolt the manifolds from the head (these bolts are grade 8 and rarely cause problems). Bead blast or wire brush the manifolds to clean off all traces of rust, then wipe them down using a small amount of lacquer thinner. Do not wash the manifolds as cast iron absorbs water. After cleaning, apply Calyx manifold dressing. The secret to applying this cream is to slowly rub it into the manifold, working it down into the pores of the cast iron. Do not use too much, as you only want to change the color of the piece. Reinstall the freshly restored manifolds, step back and admire the results!

With Corsa’s latest addition to the C6 Corvette Exhaust industry, they are sure to be one of the most talked about brands yet again. Corsa’s patented “reflective sound cancellation” technology has proven to produce the best combination of positive horsepower gains, added torque, no interior resonance and great sound over all other brand name performance Corvette exhaust systems.

Corsa Exhaust - Dual tips

Corsa Exhaust - Dual tips

For 2009 Corvette owners there are a few important facts that you need to know if you are interested in a Corsa Exhaust System… On the 2009 non Z06 Corvette, Chevrolet made slight changes with the rear crossmember. Though it was not a huge change, Corsa had to slightly modify their pipe routing to compensate for the re-design. All of their mufflers are still the same just with slightly different tubing. Also, for new ZR1 owners the 06-09′ Z06 Corsa exhaust systems will work on your Corvette with no modifications required.
