Corvettes Strong Despite GM News

June 16th, 2009

Our 13th annual Corvette Round-Up was awesome! Many thanks to all who supported and participated in the largest show yet at Zip Corvette. And special thanks to Adam’s Polishes, American Car Craft, and The Corvette Club of Richmond.

Corvette Show

Corvette Show

We had an amazing turnout! And it did our hearts good to see so many Corvette enthusiasts come out and show pride after a week of so much terrible news surrounding GM. Bankruptcy and uncertainty about product continuation were the final blows dealt by GM, blows that affect every Corvette enthusiast. Yet row after row of gorgeous cars, from original straight-axles to fully customized C6s, enjoyed perfect weather and Corvette owner camaraderie.

This was significant for everyone at Zip. As a leader in our industry, instead of making cuts and pulling back like many others, we have been pushing hard and investing in our company, and ultimately in our customers. We have invested heavily in GM supplied parts, stocking up on AC-Delco and everything else that we get direct from GM. With lots of dealerships closing and major restructuring at GM, the future looks uncertain, but Zip is prepared! You can rest assured that Zip is doing, and will continue to do, everything in our power to provide you with the Corvette Parts and Accessories that you want and need. We have some big announcements and VERY hot products coming soon!

The show solidified our belief that the Corvette community is alive and well! Zip has been selling quality Corvette Parts and Accessories since 1977 and we have seen a lot of competitors come and go. But we want you to know that as long as Corvette pride is strong, so will be Zip’s commitment to being your preferred Corvette Parts and Accessories supplier. Thank you!

C5 Corvette Seat Track Repair Shim Kit

May 20th, 2009

Finally there is a solution to the annoying seat rocking in C5 Corvettes. Lucky for you it does not require purchasing a whole new seat track unit from GM, which would cost around $550 not including labor to install. In years past this would have been your only option once your Corvette’s Seat Tracks began rocking during acceleration or braking, but now Zip Corvette has a replacement seat track shim kit that will solve your problems and save you money.

Corvette Seat Track Shim Kit

The C5 Corvette Seat Track Shim Kit comes with 4 new self lubricating shims that replace the original shims, which often deteriorate and wear out over time. Installation of the new shims is not difficult and is easily accomplished with basic mechanical skills. Step-by-step instructions are included as well as 2 short arm stubby torx wrenches that are required for installation. These wrenches can rarely be purchased at local hardware stores and are often only available in complete tool kits.

Direct Fit Aluminum Radiators for 1955-1982 Corvettes

February 18th, 2009

Upgrade your 1955-1968 Corvette cooling system with a Direct Fit Aluminum Radiator:

1955-1982 Factory Corvette Radiators do not age well; GM did not design them to last longer then 10 years so if the coolant is not flushed out regularly, dissimilar metals in the cooling system and inefficient anti-corrosion inhibitors lead to internal structural failure. This will ultimately lead to a loss of heat transfer from the built-up deposits inside the radiator tubes leaving you with a hot running Corvette. If your 1955-1982 Corvette is running hotter than you think it should and you have a factory style radiator installed then a direct-fit aluminum radiator may be in your future to solve your Corvette’s Cooling System problems.

Corvette Radiator

Corvette Radiator

Aluminum radiators have become the standard for Corvettes because of their lightweight and durable structure. Some factory Corvette radiators are made of aluminum (Original 55-82 radiators were copper/brass EXCEPT for 61-62, 63-67 327 & 68-72 350 4sspd w/o AC. They were originally aluminum.) and would work great if they had a larger core, were not sealed with simple crimp tabs, and did not have plastic end-tanks, but they are all made this way. With that said, the ideal Corvette Radiator would have a larger aluminum core and be completely welded together to make a complete one-piece unit. Many aftermarket aluminum radiators do cool much more efficiently then the stock Corvette Radiator but will fall into one of two categories: Epoxy sealed and those that are not truly “Direct-Fit”
Epoxy: Some use epoxy to seal the coolant lines running to and from the end-tanks. Though it may seem like one complete unit it can still be highly susceptible to leaks once this epoxy breaks down. When this happens it is back to square one shopping for another radiator all over again. Not Truly Direct-Fit: There are other aluminum radiators manufactured without the use of epoxy and because of the excellent craftsmanship they will keep your Corvette running cool for a long time. The problem is you will not be spending a nice Saturday afternoon installing them. Many will require multiple modifications some even to the extreme of manually bending the brand new radiator to make it fit your Corvette. Although they may be advertised as an “easy fit” they are not truly “Direct-Fit” Radiators.
