Zip Corvette Performance & Installation Facility
Corvette owners: Does “turn-key” sound more appealing than “Do-It-Yourself”? If so, Zip Corvette’s Performance & Installation Facility is for you.
For years Zip Corvette has been the place to buy Corvette Parts & Accessories for your 1953 to C6 Corvette, but now your purchase is even easier. In 2004, we opened our Corvette performance and installation facility. We offer Zip Corvette customers a professional installation on thousand’s of items, backed by our Customer Satisfaction Guarantee and over 30 years of Corvette experience.
Just about anything: Whether you need a 1966 Corvette Trailing Arm rebuild or want to gain a few extra horsepower from your 2009 C6, you can count on Zip. We utilize only the best equipment available, including all diagnostic tools, tuning equipment, and the latest tire mounting and balancing machines. We can safely mount and accurately balance any Corvette wheel and tire package. Whether it is a new set of Firestone Deluxe Champions on a 1955 Corvette, or the latest ZR1 Corvette wheels on a C5 or C6, or even our 20 inch forged wheel and tire packages, we can handle it.
More than just wheels: Are you in the market for a reputable shop to install a new Corsa, B & B, Borla, Callaway or Magnaflow Exhaust System with Kooks Headers and Crossover Pipe. We can do it. Did you say Corvette Supercharger? Of course we can install those too, and even tune the car to make the most horsepower possible. Our head mechanics are certified ASE Master Automobile Technicians who have spent many days under the hood of all six generations of Corvettes. From projects as basic as installing grill screens or side spears to the installation of Z06 Corvette Body Update Kits and more, whatever the job may be, we have successfully done it numerous times.
The small stuff: While we can certainly handle the large projects, many of the Corvettes that are in and out of our installation facility are getting the “small things” installed. This includes exterior accessories like Corvette fender screens, billet aluminum grills, C6 Corvette license plate mounts, and much, much more. Why spend 2-4 hours during your weekend reading instructions, trying to do it yourself and hoping you did it right? Just come to Zip; we can handle many jobs in under an hour while you wait on the couch in our showroom. You can have confidence in our installation service because we’ve done them all many times.
We build it: One aspect of our installation facility that is often overlooked is the fact that many of our Corvette parts are built in-house by experienced technicians. We build all of our own differentials for all generations of Corvettes, as well as Corvette trailing arm assemblies, steering boxes, and many more parts. Our performance Corvette Differentials are currently running in SCCA Corvette race cars, as well as many satisfied customers’ cars on the street. Use Zip Corvette’s install shop with confidence! Stop by and see a sales person or contact us for an appointment. Remember that unlike other auto shops, at Zip, Corvettes are all we do.

Could you give me some info on tire sizing? I have a 1976 Corvette that had aftermarket rims on it. I just found a set of (4) 15×8 rally rims and I am not sure which size would be the best for front and back sizing. Any input would be great.
Maurice,
The correct size for your Corvette would be 235/70-15.
I have a 1971 Corvette coupe. My problem is that the ignition key will start the car, but when you put it in the stop position it (the key) will not release. I can’t find a solution in the mechanics hand book. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Alan,
Sounds like the tumblers are corroded. Some WD40 might be all you need to free it up.
I have a C5 Corvette and would like to know what the best kind of battery to use would be?
Jeff,
I would use the original AC-Delco battery. I have used all of the aftermarket HP batteries and none of them have out performed the original Delco battery.
I have a 1966 Corvette with a 427 BB. Should I install the engine with the transmission on or off?
Jim,
It is easier to install the engine without the transmission attached.
I have a 4150 700cfm carburetor on my 1977 383 engine. How do I know if my secondaries are opening at the right time(double pumper;mechanical)? Also should the transmission (700r) be synchronized with this? If I hit the gas peddle hard will the secondaries open up at the same time the transmission downshifts (it is an automatic)?
Richard,
You can look to see when they are opening. Holley spends a lot of time in the research & development field making sure they are opening at the correct time. As far as the transmission, that will take on the road tuning to figure out if it is working correctly.
I have a 1971 T-Top Corvette that I am slowly bringing back to life. I’ve wanted a ‘71 forever as I was born in that year and I figured the car and I could fall apart together. After doing numerous things myself (Swapped the 270hp 350 for a 415hp 383 Stroker – 3 inch stainless exhaust – L-88 Hood as the original wouldn’t clear the new engine – pinion seals, front pump seals, and numerous other things) I’ve ran out of steam. The car is in great condition and the 38 year old paint still looks good from 10 feet away. But IT LEAKS LIKE IT DOESN’T EVEN HAVE DOORS! I’ve tried once to replace the weatherstripping, and not really knowing what I was doing, it didn’t help. I’m sick of the leaks and can’t take it any more.
How long of a turn-around would it be if I simply drove (244 miles) to your shop and had you replace all the weatherstripping on the T-tops and adjust them for proper fit. There are also some other little things that I’d like to have fixed but none as important as the seals.
Jeremy,
It will take about 4 hours to replace your Corvette’s T-Top Weatherstrip and to adjust the t-tops.
I am having difficulty installing the hood release cable on my 1981 Corvette. Do I have to remove the fuse block to install?
Ted,
No, you will have to get under and look to route the cable, but you do not need to remove the fuse block.
I am trying to put a long hood on a 1971 Corvette. I have already removed all the wiper cowl parts but now the long hood is about an inch short, it flares up on the ends, and does not match the body fender shape. Any ideas what may be wrong?
Ray,
The fenders on a 68-72 Corvette are different then a 73-82 Corvette. The later fenders go back further and flair up to match the hood. Zip sells long hoods that are made to bolt on a 68-72 Corvette and match the fenders. A stock 73-82 Corvette hood will not work though.
How difficult is it to put a newer rear facia on a 1977 Corvette? I have a 1977 Corvette and would like to upgrade to an 81/82 rear facia for the stock spoiler look. Would I be better off buying an aftermarket one or an original equipment replacement?
Thanks
Garry
Garry,
It should bolt right on.
I have a 1997 C5 Corvette with the removable glass top. The top seems to have some play now after putting it back on the car. I noticed the center latch has what looks like an adjusting screw but it does not seem to turn. Is there a way to adjust it so it does’nt rattle?
Gabriel,
The adjusting screw has a lock nut that you must loosen before you can tighten the hook.
I have a 1974 stingray and the hood release cable has broke. Any ideas as to how to get the hood open?
Purvis,
The really is no easy solution. You will have to go through the splash panel from under the Corvette. You may have to move a few other parts around in the process. Once you gain access try to release the latch by reaching with your hand.
Thank you for the help letting me know of the lock nut to adjust the top on my Corvette. I could not see it at first, it was a very small allen nut. If it wasn’t for your advice I would probably still be driving around with a noisy top on my Corvette.
Do you have the driver side crossfire injection emblem for a 1982 Corvette?
John,
Yes we carry the 1982 Corvette Cross Fire Emblem.
I’m looking at a 1966 Corvette 427 convertible that is for sale and I noticed some brackets inside the rear wheel wells that were located at about 10:00 that were not connected to anything. Any thoughts on what they might be used for?
Jeff,
It sounds like you may be looking at the #4 Corvette Body Mount. However it is hard to diagnose this without a picture.
I have a 1969 Corvette 350 4 speed and now it is a 400 – bored 30 over with 465 hp. My stock 350 Corvette hood will not close because of the high rise intake. I would like to put a 1969 stinger hood on my Corvette. Will it fit if I take the wiper door off? Does Zip sell stinger Hoods?
Fred
William,
We sell the L88 Corvette Hood that will clear. With that hood you can keep your Corvette’s wiper door which is highly recommended.
What is the largest wheel and tire combination I can put under the back of my 1977 Corvette? I am hoping to go with a low profile tire and “big” rim. Also, how small of a front wheel and tire combination would work with the rear size recommendation?
I have a problem with the primative ECM on my 1981 Corvette. Not long ago we installed a GMPP 350 HO engine in my 4 speed 81. We kept the Q-jet, distributor and exhaust from original underpowered ‘81 Corvette engine. Wanting to extract a bit more power I installed a set of Patriot short-tube headers, true duals and Magnaflow mufflers. It runs and sounds great — when it runs! Though I feel rather ignorant to admit it, as a result of the most recent exhaust upgrade the engine runs horribly at anything less than full throttle. I am almost positive that the problem is with the ECM, which is not hooked up to any exhaust sensors and is throwing my spark curve/ignition timing way off. As I see it I have only two options. The first is to install new sensors (and I know not what else) to make the distributor conform to the modifications. The other option is to strip the Corvette of the entire ECM system — installing a new carb and distributor. Have any of you who have ’81s had any similiar problems? If so, how did you remedy the problem. Thanks much.
Jay
Jay,
If you want to make things easier then get a new carburetor and distributor for your Corvette. It will be almost impossible to get a prom chip burned for the 1981 Corvette that will make it run correctly.
I own a 1988 Corvette coupe, when I turn the head lights on the Corvette makes the same sound as if I left the door open with the keys in the ignition. This sound is there the entire time the lights are on. I tried replacing all the bulbs but that did not fix the issue. Any Suggestions?
Jess,
According to the schematic it appears that part of your Corvette’s Headlight Switch is bad and you will need to replace it.
Does anyone have experiance with replacement of real time dampening shocks? I was wondering if the replacement modules with standard shocks are a good idea?
Roy,
It is a decision of what you want. If you do not care about being able to adjust your Corvette’s shocks then they are a great alternative.
I recently purchased a power antenna for my 1979 Corvette. I installed the new antenna but get no battery on any of the three wires when I turn the radio on. The radio turns on and plays to any station so it can’t be a fuse or are there other components? I could not find an electrical schematic for the radio and antenna circuitry in my manual. Do you have a trouble shooting guide for this problem that shows all the components involved and a wiring diagram? The trouble shooting guide for vacuum problems I purchased from you have made things a whole lot easier. Please advise if you have one and how to order it.
Thanks,
Frank
Frank,
The Corvette Assembly Manual & Service Manual both have schematics for the antenna. There is also a relay in the system, that relay could very well be bad.
I have a 2003 Z06 Corvette that has been wrecked. I’m looking for replacement engine bay decals that were damaged. I can find older decals, but none for 2003. Where can I find these?
Rod,
Have you checked with a local Corvette dealer? You may only be able to find those Z06 Corvette decals at the dealer for the time being.
I have a stock 1981 Corvette and would like to begin a mild performance buildup to bring it into the 300-350hp range. The car currently needs mufflers so I was thinking I would start by adding a headers to tips performance exhaust system that will support any future modifications while meeting emmision laws. Does this sound reasonable to you and what other modifications would you suggest be made over time?
Rich,
Yes this sounds reasonable. You should be able to reach your horsepower goal with a head and cam package. Take a look at the Edlebrock line of cam and aluminum heads and you should easily reach your goal.
